Oh My Now What Have I Done?
Bad News
I am sorry to say that Gytha lost her fight with Cancer early this morning. Unfortunately by the time I arrived at the hospital she had died. The only real solace I currently have is that I am told it was very quick and that she would not have had much chance to realise what was going on.

My thanks to all who helped keep her spirits up in the last few months.

I am so sorry. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. Gytha was one of the first filkers I met. I will always remember her.

I am so very sorry to hear this. I was really rooting for her.
I remember Gytha from the Eastercons and Novacons that my late husband, Dave Mooring, and I went to from about 1988 to 1997 - she was always able to part me from my dosh with all the lovely jewellery she sold. She was always full of zip and energy and I thought she was just fab! I remember Dave did her a painting of a cute cat and dragon in exchange for a bangle or somesuch because we were usually a bit strapped for cash. I don't think I ever met you, unfortunately, - if you're who I think you are - you were usually doing techie stuff away off behind the scenes.
It's only a few days since the third anniversary of Dave's death, so he's probably got himself well in at the celestial con bar and will get Gytha a drink in and pass on his copy of the Read Me (hey, not being flippant - one of my ways of coping, ok.).
Much love to you at this hardest of times. xx

Farewell Gytha

As many have said, she was the heart and soul of filking here in the UK and that's how I first met her, and I always had a very high opinion of her.

It was sad that I didn't get to see her at the Scottish Worldcon last year ... but I'm glad to hear her final passing was swift and that she's now without pain.

I don't know what comfort I can add, except to say if you're ever down in London there's always a couch to crash on here (near Heathrow) and that I'd be delighted to see you at any convention I'm involved with (and no, you wouldn't be required to help out with tech, though of course I'd be delighted if you did).

You've got a bunch of friends and acquaintences out here that haven't seen you for quite a while and who wish you the best for the future and are thinking of you at this difficult time.

An eagle took flight today
And carried my friend away,
Leaving the heaviness of the earth
To dance with the sun and the stars.

Her body stays with the earth,
To go back to where it came,
But she is flying free,
Where the best can soar and sing.

I'm sorry we've lost such a wonderful person, but I'm glad it came fast at the end. In a few weeks I'll be with some friends camping - I'll drink a toast to great woman and spill some mead into the fire for her as we sing.

So sorry

We're very sorry to hear this.

Gytha was such a force for good in fandom when I was first around. Like so many others, I remember her as the cornerstone of British filking; but also as someone with huge presence, and an immense ability to make things happen and inspire people. I learnt so much from her.

You're in our thoughts.

My heartfelt condolences. She was an extraordinary woman, and filk in the UK (and in Germany, for that matter) wouldn't be what it is without her.
